about Timisha Porcher
I’m a country girl from a small town outside of Charleston SC. I grew up in the country and I’ll probably always be a country girl at heart. I love trees and bees and the smell of the air right before and after a big rain storm. I say things like ‘hey y’all’ and ‘I’m just sayin.’ I think butter and heavy cream are staples.
I’ve always been fascinated with building things like furniture, cabinets and anything home related. My mother exposed me to arts and crafts, sewing, making pillows and curtains. But it was my father and my uncles, who used hammers and saws and drills that made me dream of what it could be when it was complete. I picked up useful carpentry skills from my father and uncles.
And while, I started my career becoming a commercial banker it was the experiences of my youth that drove me closer and closer towards my passion. I was always making things for my home and repairing anything in need of repair. I enrolled in home maintenance courses at my local community college such as carpentry, electrical and plumbing, pursuing a certificate in carpentry and home improvement. The knowledge I gained allowed me to become more confident and self-reliant tackling my own home improvement projects. Eventually my talent was noticed by friends and family, some of whom asked for advice and even assistance with their own home improvements. I then realized lots of women were uneasy with Do-It-Yourself (DIY) tasks and even afraid to try. I found my calling, creating Toolbox Divas, to help women conquer the unknown and to take charge of their own home.
